Repair or Replace on an Interwar Block
Most houses here went up between the wars, Queenslander style on generous blocks, so the repair-versus-replace call comes up constantly. The drain from the house to the street is one long earthenware line, and a single shifted joint partway along can stop every fixture in the place draining.
Galvanised supply pipe
Piped water arrived here no later than 1907, the year the Bartleys Hill service reservoir was constructed, and much of the cast iron street network from that era is still in place. The first houses here got galvanised steel supply pipe, and where renovations buried old runs in the walls, the newer bathrooms cop low flow and brown water.
One tank, several bathrooms
Big family homes that gained bathrooms over the years often hang everything on a single storage tank serving taps at the far end of the house. When one of those fails it is a whole-house outage, so we quote the repair and the re-sized replacement side by side.
Roots with decades on them
Racecourse Road's poinciana line and the big gardens beside the old mansions give roots plenty of time to work into the sockets of old clay drains. A camera inspection settles whether the line needs clearing or digging up.

Rain off the Hill
River floods miss this suburb
Neither 1974 nor January 2011 mapped over it, and only one small patch, near Doomben, appeared in the February 2022 creek mapping.
Overland flow is the real water risk
Council's mapping crosses scattered streets, among them Beatrice Terrace, Dobson Street and Hampden Street, where rain running down the Bartleys Hill slopes can drown yard gullies and downpipe connections. A blocked stormwater line is often found out only when a summer downpour finds it, and clearing the pit is a short job done before the storm season.

Why Choose Plumber Hendra
Every job here starts with the fault found and priced, whether it is a tap repair in a weatherboard on Sutherland Avenue or a tank replacement behind a rendered fence on Rupert Terrace. We also cover Nundah, Hamilton and Clayfield on the same run.

Ascot Questions
Call (07) 3067 4276Are the water mains around Ascot old?
Yes, water reached this hill over a century ago when the Bartleys Hill reservoir went in, and cast iron makes up much of the street network, so we check the supply pipe on pre-war calls.
Who owns the sewer main under my Ascot street?
Urban Utilities looks after the public sewer and water mains, and everything on the property side of the connection is the owner's, so a blocked house drain is your repair, not the utility's.
Can the poincianas along Racecourse Road block my drain?
They can, because those street trees and the big gardens near the older mansions have had decades to push roots into old drain joints, and a camera inspection pinpoints exactly where they got in.
Should I repair or replace a hot water tank in an interwar Ascot house?
We quote both, because a single tank in an extended house often feeds bathrooms on the far side of the block, so we re-size and re-position replacements rather than swapping like for like.
Does Ascot flood?
Brisbane River flooding has never mapped over the suburb, and just one small area beside Doomben sat within the February 2022 creek extent, though heavy rain sends overland flow across scattered streets off Bartleys Hill.
